It was arguably the most high-profile case in American history. Oj Simpson, one of the best running backs in NFL history, was on trial for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. The pair was murdered on June 12th, 1994, with Simpson quickly becoming the prime suspect in the case. Rather than surrender to the police, he led them on the infamous “Ford Bronco chase” which eventually led to his capture. While on trial, Simpson formed a “Dream Team” of lawyers. Their case was largely based on the polices mishandling of the case and its evidence, as well as the continued racism of police against the African American community. In the eyes of many, this case should have been an easy win for the prosecutors. During this time, roughly the mid 90’s, racism was rampant and had major implications on people’s opinion on this trial, with many white Americans believing that Simpson was guilty and African Americans believing he was not guilty. The defense argued that the police officer who found allegedly Simpson’s bloody glove, Mark Fuerman, had a history of racism, which was absolutely true and was key in breaking down the credibility of the prosecutor’s key witnesses. This led to Simpson trying on the glove, and when it did not fit, it leads to the famous line of “If the glove does not fit, you must acquit.”
